Bio

Kathy McIntosh can’t play poker but she can tell a fib without blinking. What other career than writing fiction?

She grew up in a suburb of Los Angeles with parents who instilled a lifelong love of books, humor, and nature. Weekends found them heading for the hills, their Ford Falcon stuffed with camping gear and their two daughters squabbling in the backseat.

Her love of words and a desire to escape the Los Angeles smog steered her to earn a bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from The College of Idaho. She later returned to Los Angeles to earn a masters degree in business administration from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business. Challenging for a single mother of a very active five-year-old!

Kathy transformed her love of words and nature into her fiction, after leaving a career in high tech marketing—where that facility for fibbing served her well.

Kathy’s first novels were set in Idaho, earning her a place as one of Idaho’s Best New Authors in 2013. She now sets her books—all featuring amateur sleuths—in the American Southwest, where she lives with her husband and a “small” Bernese Mountain Dog rescue. Her short stories are published in a variety of anthologies. She and her husband travel often, discovering new cuisines and cultures and allowing Kathy to lie without even trying in other languages. She is a member of Great Old Broads for Wilderness, is active in Sisters in Crime and Arizona Mystery Writers, and volunteers for her local animal shelter. She also helps with efforts to seek and remove invasive species such as Arundo and stinknet when time—and her energy—permit.
